Fire Brigades—General (1-2 hours of training)

This comprehensive interactive multimedia-training program consists of one lesson that provides general awareness training for all employees who may become members of industrial fire brigades. The lesson will cover training in the functions the fire brigade is expected to perform at the facility, personal protective equipment, fixed and portable fire suppression equipment, and in specialized training requirements for fire brigades performing interior structural fire fighting.

Audience: This program is mandatory training for all employees who may become members of industrial fire brigades.

Prerequisites: This lesson is designed so that no prior knowledge is required.

Objectives:

  • Describe the organization of the industrial fire brigade, including the limits of action and responsibility, operating criteria, physical requirements, training and safety management
  • Include a description of the elements of personal safety, including protective clothing, respiratory equipment and specialized industrial hazards such as flammables, toxic chemicals, water reactive chemicals and other hazards to which members of fire brigades may be exposed
  • Describe the general maintenance and inspection requirements for fire extinguishers, standpipe and hose systems, automatic sprinkler systems, fixed extinguishing systems, fire detection systems and fire alarm systems
