Course 1 – Principles and Metallurgy

Prerequisites: There is no specific prerequisite knowledge or experience necessary to begin study.

Description: This comprehensive DVD training program covers the principles of welding and the relationship between welding and metallurgy. This program focuses on different types of welding processes, and on some mechanical, chemical and thermal properties of metals. This program explains the terminology associated with welding, and the effects of welding on metal and also shows how to determine the properties of a metal through the use of identification numbers, plant records, field procedures and field tests, and ways that these properties can be altered by welding.



Course 2 – Joint Design and Symbols

Prerequisites: This program is designed for persons who are familiar with the basic principles of welding and metallurgy.

Description: This comprehensive DVD training program covers joint design and symbols. This program shows and explains the basic characteristics of the five basic joints used in welding, and shows how these joints are represented graphically. This program also focuses on fillet welds and groove welds, discussing characteristics and variations of each type of weld, the parts of each type of weld and how dimensions and specifications for each type of weld are depicted in welding symbols.



Course 3 – General Techniques and Safety Practices

Prerequisites: This program is designed for persons who are familiar with the basic principles of welding and metallurgy, the properties of metals, the basic characteristics of the five major joints used in welding and joint design and symbols.

Description: This comprehensive DVD training program covers welding safety and joint preparation. This program suggests types of safety gear that can be worn when welding and environment and equipment safety practices that can be followed when welding. This program shows and explains the function and importance of different welding positions, variables, and techniques, including the positions for plate and pipe welding, the work and travel angles and arc length and travel speed and also shows how to deposit stringer and weave beads.



Course 4 – Oxygen-Fuel Gas Cutting

Prerequisites: This program is designed for persons who are familiar with the basic principles of welding and metallurgy, joint design and symbols and general techniques and safety practices.

Description: This comprehensive DVD training program covers principles and techniques of oxygen-fuel gas cutting. This program shows and explains the basic principles of oxygen-fuel gas cutting, including the types of gases used for this process and how they are stored, the cutting equipment and how it operates and common applications of oxygen-fuel gas cutting. This program also shows how to set up equipment, choose the correct cutting tip, set operating pressures and perform several types of cuts.



Course 5 – Brazing and Braze Welding

Prerequisites: This program is designed for persons who are familiar with the principles of welding and metallurgy, the properties of metals, joint design and symbols, general welding techniques and safety practices and oxygen-fuel gas equipment setup and use.

Description: This comprehensive DVD training program covers brazing, braze welding and soldering. This program shows and explains the equipment, filler metals and fluxes and basic techniques that are used for each process.



Course 6 – Shielded Metal-Arc Welding Principles

Prerequisites: This program is designed for persons who are familiar with the principles of welding and metallurgy, the properties of metals, joint design and symbols and general welding techniques and safety practices.

Description: This comprehensive DVD training program covers the principles of shielded metal-arc welding. This program shows and explains the equipment used for the shielded metal-arc welding process, including the types of electrodes that are used, how the electrode is manipulated and how an electrical circuit is established between the power source, the electrode, and the work. This program also demonstrates proper equipment setup, how to strike an arc, how to perform a practice weld and how to determine weld quality when inspecting a finished weld.



Course 7 – Shielded Metal-Arc Structural and Pipe Welding

Prerequisites: This program is designed for persons who are familiar with the principles of welding and metallurgy, the properties of metals, joint design and symbols, the principles of shielded metal-arc welding and general welding techniques and safety practices.

Description: This comprehensive DVD training program covers shielded metal-arc welding. This program shows and explains SMAW techniques commonly used for various types of joints and with different types of electrodes. This program also shows techniques used for pipe welding with the SMAW process.



Course 8 – Principles of TIG

Prerequisites: This program is designed for persons who are familiar with the principles of welding and metallurgy, the properties of metals, joint design and symbols and general welding techniques and safety practices.

Description: This comprehensive DVD training program covers the principles of TIG welding. This program focuses on the electrical and shielding systems that make up the TIG process, and on the various types of electrodes and electrical characteristics that are used in the TIG process. This program shows and explains how to set up and operate TIG equipment, how to establish a circuit path and how to maintain the correct penetration, travel speed and flow rate and also shows how to perform a TIG weld and how to prevent contamination of welds.



Course 9 – TIG Structural and Pipe Welding

Prerequisites: This program is designed for persons who are familiar with the basic principles of metallurgy and TIG welding, the properties of metals, joint design and symbols, general welding techniques and safety practices and the specific safety requirements of TIG welding.

Description: This comprehensive DVD training program covers the principles of TIG structural and pipe welding. This program focuses on welding aluminum, stainless steel, stainless steel pipe and carbon steel pipe using the TIG process. This program shows and explains techniques for adding filler metal and for progressing up the bevel and also describes two programmable current control features of the TIG welding machine.



Course 10 – Principles and Techniques of MIG

Description: This comprehensive DVD training program covers the MIG welding process. This program shows and explains the equipment used in MIG welding and how it is set up, and the types of shielding gases and different transfer methods that are used for various MIG welding applications. This program also shows several different welding applications involving the MIG process, focusing on the techniques that are used when welding various types of metals.



Course 11 – Weld Defects: Causes and Corrections

Prerequisites: This program is designed for persons who are familiar with the principles of welding and metallurgy, the properties of metals, joint design and symbols and general welding techniques and safety practices.

Description: This comprehensive DVD training program covers different types of weld defects. This program focuses on defects that affect the size, shape and contour of welds, defects that affect the internal continuity of welds and defects that affect the properties of the base and weld metals. This program shows and explains the causes of such defects, and tells how they can be prevented or corrected and also shows two ways to remove defective welds and presents destructive and nondestructive examinations that can be used to locate weld defects on the surface of a weld and in its interior.



Course 12 – Cutting: Plasma-Arc and Air Carbon-Arc

Prerequisites: This program is designed for persons who are familiar with the basic principles of welding and metallurgy, the properties of metals, joint design and symbols and general welding techniques and safety practices.

Description: This comprehensive DVD training program covers the principles of air carbon-arc cutting and plasma-arc cutting. This program focuses on safety procedures, equipment setup and cutting applications. This program shows and explains how to use the air carbon-arc cutting process to remove welds and to make different types of grooves and also shows how to use the plasma-arc cutting process to make a straight cut, a shape cut and a stack cut.
